Where We Started

Godliman was founded in September 2000 by Megan Stuart-Mills and Rupert Reed as a values-driven, research-intensive Executive Search boutique, to provide recruitment services to the Asset Management sector.

The transparency of our Search process requires us to leverage off a comprehensive knowledge-base of the Asset Management sector. Without it, we simply could not do what we do.

So we did not attempt any headhunting for the first 18 months. Instead, we focused all our resources on creating a custom-built database, with five researchers populating it with information collected from the public domain (trade press, industry directories and internet sites). We offset most of the development costs by leasing the data to 14 other Asset Management headhunters in London.

In March 2002, we felt we had enough information (some 12,000 records) to start undertaking Executive Search assignments to the exacting standards required by our Search Process. So we withdrew our knowledge base from the other headhunters, taking back all the data they had leased. Sarah Rogerson joined us as our third Partner. And, a month after she started marketing our services, we were retained for our first two assignments.

Since then, our knowledge base has grown to over 25,000 contacts and we have successfully completed some 58 assignments for 17 firms, becoming one of the leading asset management Search practices in the City.
