Pictet duo join Smith & Williamson

May 6th, 2015

Smith & Williamson have hired the former co-Heads of Global Equities from Pictet Asset Management, Tim Day and Chris Ford. The duo are to run the Smith & Williamson North American Trust and a Dublin-domiciled global Equity UCITS, the Mid Ocean World Investment Fund.

The £89m North American Trust had been headed up by Robert Royle, who is transferring to the firm’s private client business. Its former lead manager, Lady Tana Focke, is retiring after almost 20 years on the trust. Meanwhile, the £108m Mid Ocean World fund had been managed by David Hunter, who is stepping down to focus on other portfolio management responsibilities within Smith & Williamson. Global investment team member Vinay Raval will assist Day and Ford in their roles.

Smith & Williamson Investment Management Head of Funds business Ed Rosengarten says “Our fund management business continues to attract talented people who are looking for an investment culture where they are given the freedom and support to outperform. Our equity managers are characterised by bottom-up, high-conviction investing, within a disciplined framework. This is combined with an awareness of underlying market themes, and the skill and experience to bring this all together.”

Both managers have experience running US and Global Equities at leading fund groups including Pictet, Henderson, Schroders, and Aegon. Pictet has not yet announced who will replace the Day and Ford.
